How favorites come from?

Many believe that the name favorites because of the imperial hunting lodge "Favorita", today in the 4th Theresianum District expenditure. Actually, the naming comes but from the adjacent "favorite line" and the "Favorithen-Thor" line of the walls, the outer fortifications of the then Vienna. Thus, the settlement received from the city the name "settlement before the favorite line" and it was in the language simply "Favorites".

This settlement belonged to the 1850 unincorporated Wieden (4th District), in 1861 along the Laxenburger road between it and the new 5th Margaret shared district and 27 10th September 1874 as a new District constituted.

The newly created district already included 83 streets and squares with 940 houses and had 26 786 inhabitants. ( Historical gazetteer Vienna, p. 8)
